I am an environmental social scientist, originally trained in sociology but much of my research has been conducted in collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines. My main research interest is in social dimensions of risk, particularly in relation to specific geographical places. Although technological risk has been the primary focus of this research I have for some time been cultivating an interest in applying this to the experience of natural hazards, particularly volcanic hazards. I also bring to the project an interest in the conduct and challenges of ‘interdisciplinary' research. Within Streva I shall be contributing mainly to the analysis of communication processes (WP6) but also to related work on vulnerability (WP3) and governance (WP4).
