Where we worked
STREVA’s forensic approach has contributed knowledge about disaster causality from a single eruptive event, and helped our understanding of the dynamics of different phases of eruptions, their impacts and adaptations to volcanic hazards and risk over time.
Forensic Volcanoes
Selected on the basis of being currently or recently active, having substantial geophysical data streams and substantial proximal populations affected by recent eruptions.
Trial Volcanoes
Identified by STREVA’s regional partners organisations as a serious concern. They are not well-monitored, show signs of unrest and with significant exposed populations and assets.
Forensic Workshops
The focus of our interdisciplinary analyses was guided by initial ‘forensic’ workshops – intensive in-country evidence gathering exercises, set within a week of social capital-building activities. These were designed to bring together STREVA researchers with in-country scientists, local decision makers, emergency managers and citizens.
